Paloma's Nest

Patrick and I have had so many ideas for favors the past couple of months. I think these little ceramic tiles from Etsy seller Paloma's Nest would be perfect for our wedding. We need our favors to be small, and easily packable as we have to bring them down to Jamaica with us in our suitcases. We still have to finalize the copy, but I think we have a pretty good idea of what we want them to say...

love jenna

I am so excited to share with you our lovely calligrapher's work, love jenna! Patrick and I have known Jenna for many years, we all went to the same art school and lucky for us she lives right down the street from us in Brooklyn. We met with her last week to look at all of the beautiful samples she created for our wedding. It was hard to chose one direction, each one was ever so slightly different, but nonetheless amazing. Her calligraphy has been featured in Real Simple, Good Housekeeping and Hallmark Cards. Not only is she talented with her lettering, she also does incredible displays for Anthropologie. Here are some of the gorgeous samples she showed us.

Cake Topper Inspiration

As soon as I finished up our invites, I sent Jen Murphy (our cake topper designer) our stationery suite along with these images for our inspiration boards. Along with images, I sent her some Mokuba ribbon I picked up a few weeks ago. I can't wait to see what she comes up with, she is so talented! I will be sure to post her creation as soon as I get it.

I sent some of the cake toppers I love from Patch NYC as well as Anne Wood for inspiration. Although I love their designs, I can't wait to see what Jen comes up with for our big event.

Sweet Acorn Store

How cute are these head bands and barrettes from Etsy seller Sweet Acorn Store? I am thinking of buying a couple for my flower girls, my only worry is they may be a little too big and uncomfortable for a 3 and 4 year old.

Skirts and Stationery Event

This weekend I attended the Skirts and Stationery event with fellow bloggers and brides to be, Vane of Brooklyn Bride and Anne of Perfect Bound. It was a sweet and cozy little event, great cakes to eat and beautiful stationery to admire! I loved the cakes, they were so tasty, made by Sweet Melissa's Archana, I tried both cakes; a buttercream pecan and a buttercream, chocolate with fresh strawberries on top... I was a bit out of it as I had a late night before (a belated birthday party), but nonetheless, the cakes were fantastic! I wish I remembered what the fillings were... On our way out, I admired all of the Nic Event's stationery suites, Nicole has such great work and it was sweet to meet her husband as he popped in to say hello.

Town Mouse

I finished the invites a last week and now I am onto the next big thing to check off our list, welcome totes. I saw these children's tote bags from the Town Mouse, a shop in Australia and love the bright fabrics and how personalized each one is. I probably won't have the time to make each niece and nephew tote this cute, but it's definitely an inspiring direction that can be done in a simpler way.

French General

The French General, located in Hollywood, CA, is a store I wish was down the street from me. I can see myself spending countless hours there, browsing through all of the little tid bits and gems, oh the endless possibilities. Luckily they have a great online store that will satisfy my quick fix. They have such great stuff!

Blue Bird Lane

These vintage inspired botanical tags are absolutely gorgeous. I can see many uses for them, from favors to welcome totes, they would be a great way to spruce up any lovely gift. Check out the rest of Etsy seller Blue Bird Lane's designs.

Learning To Love You More

Just recently a friend showed me the book Learning to Love you More. I had been aware of the project created by the artists Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher and was excited to find out they published a book, compiling all of the lovely, happy and sad stories of people from around the world completing the assignments created by the authors. Some of the assignments are silly and fun, while others are more thought provoking and sad, all of which will help you build a greater sense of self. Some of my favorite assignments are:

#6 - Make a poster of shadows.
#25 - Make a video of someone dancing.
#35 - Ask your family to describe what you do.
#45 - Reread your favorite book from the 5th grade.
#53 - Give advice to yourself in the past.
#63- Describe your ideal government.

Here is a link to the Oliver family, they created a blog documenting the completion of their assignments.

I love the simplicity of these cards from Bread and Butter. Such sweet little messages that would make anyone smile.

Kate Sutton

I absolutely adore these Cuckoo Clocks made by Kate Sutton, these are some of the cutest clock I have seen in a long time!

Reverie

Designer Alison Woodward of Reverie makes some of the most incredible handmade jewelry around. Each piece is an original one of a kind, at times looking more like a beautiful composition in a painting than something you can wear. Lucky for us, we can wear her art. These pieces remind me of warm weather, something I desperately miss right now!

Thomas O'Brien Dinnerware

Recently a friend sent me photos of the Thomas O'Brien dinnerware. The photos were taken at Thomas' store Aero and show how all of his dinnerware collections work beautifully together. Patrick and I are registered for the Elissa collection, and now I am thinking of adding either the Marielle or Tilden Lace chargers to our assortment.

Just Another Day

Browsing through Etsy, I came across the great little Minneapolis sketchbooks by Just Another Day. Although Patrick and I now live in New York, we started dating back in Minneapolis a long, long time ago. We share such fond memories of MN and these sketchbooks would be great additions to our welcome totes to represent the beginning stages of our relationship.

Record the Day

I am off traveling for work the next couple of days but I thought I would share one of my favorite blogs with you, if you don't already know it, you should. Record the Day is a brilliant little blog full of random, everyday thoughts and images compiled into gorgeous little collages. Give yourself plenty of time to browse through her site, many a nights I have spent hours looking through all of her lovely collages.

More NY Gift Favorites!

I just love Sukie, they are one of my favorite paper/stationery design companies. I met one of the designers Darrell and he was so nice! Their line of new Travel Journals is fantastic, really fun illustrated covers with little storage pockets for memorabilia collected from your travels. The new Rescued Paper Note Books are full of discarded papers from India, such a great and green concept. The pages are from end of print runs, advertising and bound simply without processing. All such great little gifts!

Suck UK always has such fun product ideas, these Wooden Postcards are an easy and primitive way to spread the love.

I love the fresh colors of the new dinnerware by Jonathan Adler, I especially adore the eye-shaped chargers. How great would a table look set with these? The porcelain hands on lucite blocks are also fantastic, anything on a lucite block gets me excited! Not only are they beautiful little table sculptures, but I think they would be great ring holders!

Mizzonk

Mizzonk had one of my favorite booths this year at the NY Gift show. This husband and wife design duo from Canada had really thoughtful and considered work. They were the recipients of this years award of excellence in the Accent on Design area of the gift show. Some of my favorite pieces were out of their art collection: Inspiration Series. Simple shapes partially cut from paper then hand folded in a specific direction to create a sense of movement, shadow and light. I also loved the Yes or No Tic Tac Toe, the beautifully crafted X's and O's placed in a nice big chunk of walnut or cedar would be a great gift, especially for a hard to gift Dad!
